Visa options
Parent visa options
Parent visa (subclass 103)
A non-contributory visa for parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens. Processing times are lengthy but costs are lower.
Contributory Parent visa (subclass 143)
A permanent visa with significantly faster processing than the subclass 103, but with higher application charges. Requires a second instalment before grant.
Contributory Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 173)
A temporary visa that allows parents to live in Australia while waiting to apply for the permanent Contributory Parent visa (subclass 143).
Aged Parent visa (subclass 804)
For parents who are already in Australia and of retirement age. A non-contributory option with lengthy processing times.
Contributory Aged Parent visa (subclass 864)
A permanent contributory visa for aged parents already in Australia. Faster processing than the subclass 804 but with higher application charges.
Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 870)
A temporary visa allowing parents to stay in Australia for up to 3 or 5 years at a time, sponsored by an eligible child. Can be renewed up to a total of 10 years.
